"I went to a 4th of July celebration where I took 319 pictures. Only 5 of them were bad pictures (probably user mistake). I have taken some awesome fireworks picture. The 10X optical zoom really helps get in close on subjects. The only MINOR complaints that I have are:
1) It's not a fast click between pictures with AutoFocus.
2) Camera settings are reset each time by default.
3) When changing the quality to Super High Quality, the picture gets darker.

All in all, I am very happy with this purchase.

"I purchased this Olympus CAMEDIA C 740 Ultra Zoom Digital camera about 3 weeks ago before a 10 day trip to Germany. I was looking for something with a lot of optical zoom, and 10x was plenty. Shooting a lot of sites like castles and such, the zoom really came through. However, a 10x zoom is pretty powerful and no matter the camera you will need a lot of light and a very steady hand to take advantage of the full zoom. I usually shot around 5x - 8x to avoid blurry, shakey pictures. The zoom was awesome on a couple of occasions when a smaller zoom would have made worthless pictures.

On one day I was trying to shoot the Neuschwanstein Castle (Disney's model castle in Bavaria) and it was very foggy. My 2x Canon just could not get close enough to get any detail through the fog. The Olympus took some spectacular pictures. Some were very cool with the fog, and I was excited at how well they turned out when I got them up on my computer monitor.

This camera is easy to use with the "Auto" mode, but you can also customize a lot of stuff if you are a really photo pro. 3.2 megapixels is plenty enough for me. In fact, I would rather have this camera with the huge zoom than another camera with more pixels. "

"Pros: 10x zoom is great

Cons: Slow. No hot shoe

Summary: I have had my olympus 740 for a while. I wanted the c750 but it was not out yet Since my c3000 broke and needed something quick. I've taken a lot of great landscape pictures with this camera. Its compact size it great for taking on trips. I do not think it good for taking pictures of anything moving. It was almost impossible to take a pictures of a kid swinging and capture at the highest point. Last fall I went up north to capture fall colors. I took my 35mm and my c740 with me. I took most of my pictures using digital. When I found a good composure I took both. Afterword when I compared I felt the digital did a better job with using the zoom. I was also able to capture the hole bridge with the c740. The 35mm cut it off parts with the standard lense when I was standing in the same place. Picture quality is good for a 3 meg but I am interested in something better now. "

"Pros: Wide range of camera options. Shoots great in all lighting if proper settings are used. Great 10x zoom for getting great pictures anywhere.

Cons: Somewhat bulky for a digital. Doesn't capture sound.
