"Overall the Olympus SP-550 Ultra Zoom Digital camera is a pretty good deal, yes the price is a little high but if you want the latest and greatest 18x ZOOM!!!!!you pay. So far the camera has been easy to use fairly light and takes good pictures.

"Olympus SP-550 Ultra Zoom Digital camera,The 18x zoom is superb! I have taken pictures of my grandson playing baseball way out in left field. I shot them in high resolution and then cropped them. They look as if I was standing in front of him, even the motion shots were clear without any blurring. I recommend using the highest quality batteries, i.e. 2900 mAh rechargeables (throw away any rechargeables under 2500mAh). This is true for any of the newer digital cameras. I recently used the camera at a picnic and had it turned on most of the day. The batteries were still good for another occasion the next day and I shot over 200 pictures.

"This Olympus SP-550 Ultra Zoom Digital camera can zoom WAY in on things, lots of great features (not all are easy to navigate), immaculate pictures. The difficulties are few, but a steady hand is required to shoot this sweet camera at full zoom (which makes sense). Great canera, great price (for the zoom), and excellent in working with buy.com!

"I have an Olympus SP-500UZ (the predecessor model to the 550) and it's great except for one thing -- there's a noticeable time lag between when I press the shutter button and when the shutter actually 'opens' to take the picture, especially when the flash is used. It's a fine camera for stationary or slow-moving objects but not great if the subject is moving, as my grandchildren tend to do. I know there's a 'sports' mode which is supposedly good for stop-action pics but I've never learned how to use it, and don't know how well it will mesh with a flash.
